At Charnwood Discovery, the analytical and purification team bring many years’ analytical and purification experience to every project.
We have built up a bank of experience and expertise by successfully supporting a variety of different projects across the industry from hit identification through to commercial release.
The analytical and purification laboratory is located within the same building as our chemistry, bioscience, and DMPK teams, facilitating excellent communication and cross-functional knowledge sharing across projects.
Our dedicated team of analytical chemists can develop customized methods for analysis at every stage of the drug discovery and development process. Examples include reaction monitoring, stability analysis, purity determination and impurity tracking.
We carry out high quality purification of compounds from milligrams to multi-grams as stand-alone purifications, and as part of integrated drug discovery projects.
Providing good quality data is critical to the success of projects. Therefore Charnwood Discovery invests in a range of analytical equipment that allows us, and most importantly, our clients and their teams to have confidence in the data supplied.
Open Access UPLCs
We have multiple open access Acquity I-Class UPLC-MS systems which are equipped with:
- Photodiode array (PDA/UV) detection
- Evaporative Light Scattering (ELS) detection
- Mass Spectrometry (MS) detection
Providing our chemists with a variety of consistent and high-quality chromatographic data gives them access to the important information they need to move forward with their chemistry.
Customized methods can also be developed where required.
Flash Purification Systems
Each laboratory is well equipped with open access Teledyne ISCO CombiFlash® NextGen 300+ flash purification systems with UV and ELS detectors, allowing for multi-gram scale purifications of a wide range of compound classes.
Our PR&D team also has a CombiFlash Torrent, including a large-scale system supporting 100g+ scale purifications in normal and reverse phase mobile phases.
Preparative Liquid Chromatography
Our dedicated team of expert scientists have access to the following:
- A suite of Teledyne ISCO ACCQPrep HP 150 systems
- Waters mass-directed auto purification system
UV and mass spectrometric triggered fraction collection including the use of optimised programmable functions for more complex purifications.
We have developed a streamlined automated workflow delivering purification of complex samples on milligram to multi-gram scales with rapid and consistent turnaround times.
Supporting discovery chemistry and chemical development projects for example high throughput purification and impurity isolations.
We have a JEOL 400 ECZ spectrometer with open access for all users. It is equipped with a 100-place auto sample changer that allows for continuous data collection, 24/7.
Our chemists benefit from the instrument’s advanced ROYALPROBETMHFX technology, which provides high-quality data on various nuclei, including 1H, 19F, 13C, 31P, and 15N.
This enables us to perform both homonuclear and heteronuclear analyses, which can be used for structural elucidation, purity determination, and quantitative measurements supporting the drug discovery process.
